Assisting clients in meeting their tax responsibilities and making sure they do not pay any more taxes than what they legally have to.
I have been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for 31 years and I have been in the accounting field since 1981. I also hold the designation of Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) since it was first established by the AICPA in 2012.
Recently, I have joined the firm of Padro & Company, P.A. as a tax principal. Jose F. Padro, CPA, the managing shareholder of the firm and I have a very similar philosophy when it comes to managing a tax practice and dealing with clients and colleagues. We have represented clients successfully through complex IRS audits.
I joined the Internal Revenue Service as an Internal Revenue Agent in 1984, after having worked in public accounting for 3 years and have recently retired from the IRS after 33 years of service. I have vast experience in the inner workings of the IRS and how it conducts its audits and tax enforcement. I spent the first 20 years working as a field agent (auditor) for what is now known as the Small Business Self Employed Division (SBSE) of the IRS. During my years with SBSE, I became a Healthcare Segment specialist, a computer resource person, and on-the- job instructor and also a VITA instructor.
The remaining 13 years with the IRS I worked as a field agent in the Large Business & International Division (LB&I). My experience with the IRS covers many industries, domestic and international issues, highly complex tax issues dealing with consolidated returns and multinational companies, and extensive and in-depth tax research experience. I also worked numerous Estate and Trust cases and had substantial interaction with the Appeals Division, the Office of Chief Counsel of the IRS and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). Additionally, I was an elected official and served as treasurer of the local chapter for the National Treasury Employee Union (NTEU) for a number of years and served as a union steward in the application of federal labor laws.
I started my college education at Montclair State University, in Upper Montclair, NJ in 1976. Since my family decided to move to Florida, I continued my college education at Miami-Dade College, where I earned my A.A. Degree in 1979. Then, I continued my education at Florida International University and Barry University, where I earned my B.S. Degree in accounting in 1983. I passed the CPA exam and became a CPA in 1986. During that same year, I became a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA). Subsequently, I also joined the Cuban American CPA Association and served as a board member for 5 years.
